Espuña was founded in 1947 in Olot (Spain) as a manufacturer of
sausages. Since then Espuña has extended its product range and is
today present on the national and international market.
Espuña closed the 2009 financial year with total sales of 9,148
tonnes and a turnover of 81.5 million Euros.
Our headquarters today are located in the city of Olot, while
our production plants are located in Olot (where we have two
factories, one multi-production and sliced products and another for
Serrano ham), Utrillas (a plant for sliced products) and Argentina
(a multi-product plant). The 4 factories comprise an industrial
surface area of 46,098 m2 and employ a total of 427
people.
Exportations comprise almost 25% of our total turnover, and
although our presence is steadily spreading around the world, our
markets are concentrated in France, with more than 50% of our
export turnover, Portugal and Britain with 24% and Germany with 7%.
Espuña also exports to other countries which are highly strict with
respect to quality and food hygiene standards, such as Japan. Our
plant in Argentina allows Espuña to cover the needs of the South
American market, which is still being developed.
Serrano ham slices are the most successful product in both our
Spanish and export markets. In the Spanish market, Serrano ham
slices account for 50% of turnover, while in the international
market the figure is 31%. Minute Tapas amount to 34% of turnover in
the overseas market, while in Spain this range only accrues 2%, a
figure which is, however increasing.
